FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
NO ADDITIONAL CONTROL ELEMENTS?
We have consciously decided on omitting additional controllers such as the pitch or mod-wheel, since these can be easily emulated with certain keys by using sensors. Therefore, it is conceivable that the first “C” of the beginning octave in the software is configured as a pitch-wheel and the following “D” as a mod-wheel. The same is also possible with all other controllers and buttons. And with the support of Midi-CC commands that can be applied to every key, the entire octave can be used for the control of channel strips.
DO I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MY FINGERS?
This question is certainly justified. With the constant up and down movement of fingers on the keyboard surface, there is greater friction between finger and keys in comparison to touch sensitive keyboards. However, since the resistance of our keys is lighter than among other manufacturers, you do not have to worry about the health of your fingers. All joking aside, especially during longer performances, the light feel of the keys is perfectly integrated into the concept of our keyboards. Playing for hours associated with fast up and down movements is thus possible without any problems.
WHAT KIND OF OPERATING ELEMENTS DOES THE HARDWARE HAVE?
If there are problems with the automated configuration of the network interfaces, evo has an alpha- numerical display that enables the manual configuration of the network interfaces in connection with the operating elements. Furthermore, the operating elements aligned around the display can be used for the control of the current octave, as well as for switching the presets.
HOW CAN THE SPECIAL FORM OF THE KEYS BE EXPLAINED?
The evo is not a keyboard that was especially developed for use with piano simulations. Rather, it is a hybrid interface made up of stroke dynamic, mechanical keyboard keys and a highly modern touch surface. The reason the keys are longer is that this provides more surface area for better use of the technology. Primarily, it provides one plane for the precise execution of movements. We see the use of the finger position not only as an aid for the possible modulation of tones. To us, each touch sensitive key represents its own input device.
WHY ARE THE BLACK KEYS SO WIDE?
For the width of the black keys we did not make any compromises. Unlike the white keys, the black keys do not offer, according to today's state of technology, sufficient room for a smooth function of a sensor. However, to guarantee the same function for black and white keys, we were forced to make the black keys greatly deviate from the standard. Contrary to how it appears at first glance, the playability is not severely affected by this change.
ARE THE KEYS WEIGHTED?
In the current version there is no support for weighted keys. The reason is in the conveyance of a special, light feel of the keys. We have reviewed some concepts, and have come to the conclusion that weight can have a negative effect on this feeling. Technology is always our main focus therefore we do not want to make any compromises.
CAN I DEACTIVATE THE TOUCH FUNCTION?
Of course! It is up to you which keys you use to activate or deactivate the sensors. Even if it is about an individual key or even an entire octave, you can freely choose whether you want to use the sensors or not. We are not setting any limits.
WHY ARE THE KEYS SO EASY TO PRESS?
Clearly the main focus is evo's touch function. To use it as we intended, it is necessary to keep the counter pressure of a key as low as possible. Only this way, are quick, yet precise movements on the surface possible. The stronger the counter pressure, the harder it is for the fingers to glide over the surface. And especially for quick and frequent movements, this can severely restrict mobility.
DO I HAVE TO KNOW ABOUT NETWORKS, IP-ADDRESSES AND SO ON?
No! Our software framework allows a comfortable integration of the evo, either directly to a computer or via an existing network. The only thing you still need to do is connect a cable between evo and the computer, or in the case of integrating into an existing network, between evo and a router, hub or switch.
DOES THE EVO ALSO WORK WITH TRADITIONAL SOUND SYNTHESIZERS?
Of course! Thanks to the complete support of the Midi protocol, the keyboard works with all programs responding to this protocol. Thus, the keyboard is completely downward compatible with other controllers. In clear text this means that everything you have done with keyboards in the past you can now also do with evo.
